CASTING CALL - The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged)
April 3, 2016
Burn Bright Theatre are reviving The Reduced Shakespeare Company’s wonderfully chaotic production The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) this summer.
We are looking for three performers with great comic timing and a strong handle on performing Shakespeare to make up our band of players. Potential players should also be comfortable with improvisation and have some musical ability.
The script calls for short bursts of live music and features a rap, so the abilities to play a musical instrument, sing and/or beatbox are very desirable!
We are passionate about integrated casting, so we’re keeping the gender/age/ethnicity of our players flexible. The Reduced Shakespeare Company's original production of this script featured three male performers, but we would like at least one female performer in our cast. If you’re funny and love Shakespeare, please apply!
ABOUT US Burn Bright Theatre was established in 2015 by producer/playwright Isabel Dixon and director/workshop facilitator Katherine Timms. Our debut production Vernon God Little ran at the Space in March/April 2015, and remains the best-selling show at the venue to date.
Since then we've worked on a variety of projects. These include a Christmas pop-up show, All Is Bright, which was commissioned by Westminster Borough Council in December 2015 to tour community hubs and sheltered accommodation, providing theatre for residents unable to access traditional Christmas theatre in London. Our latest solo show TROLL premiered back at the Space as part of the 2016 One Festival and is likely to tour later this year.
AUDITIONS Auditions will take place on Saturday 9th April and Sunday 10th April 10-5pm. We’ve also got some time booked for recalls and overspill auditions on Friday 15th April.
We’ll be seeing our auditionees for group workshops, lasting around 1 hour 30 minutes.
Locations for auditions are still being finalised, but are likely to be in Central London.
Please let us know if you have any particular issues with dates/times in your application and we'll do our best to be flexible!
REHEARSALS We’re planning to rehearse from Monday 2nd May until the show opens on Tuesday 24th May.
Rehearsals will take place during the day, and we’ll be aiming to squeeze in four days a week Tuesday-Friday.
There can be some flexibility around work commitments.
PERFORMANCES This production will run at the Bread and Roses Theatre from May 24th- June 11th 2016.
Running time is estimated at 2 hours.
Performances will run Tuesday-Saturday at 7.30pm.
FEES We are currently able to guarantee a minimum fee of £500 per performer for this project.
We are awaiting an application outcome for funding from ACE. If this is successful, we will be paying London Living Wage for the project. Please note that this decision is not due until the end of April.
Burn Bright Theatre recognises the responsibility to work flexibly where LLW is not being paid, and we're happy to accommodate work commitments where we can over the rehearsal period. All financing and budgeting for the project will be run via an open book, as per the Protecting Actors Casting Agreement.
Please email firstname.lastname@example.org to apply and we'll be in touch.
